Categories are product groupings that you assign on the COGS Setup page. They allow you to organise products and apply specific cost rules to groups of products instead of managing each item individually.
Categories are primarily used to control shipping rules and cost calculations at a more granular level.
For example, if certain products:
Are heavier
Require special packaging
Have higher courier costs
Are bulky or oversized
You can assign them to a specific category and configure a shipping rule for that category.
When an order contains a product assigned to a category with a defined shipping rule, Finzite will apply the category shipping fee per item in the order.
This means:
Category-based shipping rules override the Default Shipping Fee.
Fees are applied per product line item, not just per order (if configured that way).
Using categories ensures that shipping and fulfilment costs more accurately reflect the true cost of delivering different types of products, which improves the accuracy of your Contribution calculations.
If no category is assigned to a product, Finzite will fall back to the Default Shipping Fee (unless a shipping aggregator integration is connected).
